Radiation is not just "Chernobyl" — natural background exists everywhere. In Germany the average is ~2 mSv per year — safe. Higher: in the Erzgebirge (old GDR uranium mines, up to 5–10 mSv); in Bavaria near granite rocks (Fichtelgebirge); while flying (+0.1 mSv per transatlantic flight). Chernobyl traces lie in Bavaria and Thuringia — mushroom picking there is officially discouraged.
- ●Radon in cellars: uplands need ventilation
- ●Medicine: CT ≈ 10 mSv = 5 years of background, X-ray ≈ 0.1 mSv
- ●The BfS site maps background radiation by district
⚡ Germany measures with "Messstationen" — a nationwide sensor network. Anyone can check online: background in your city, in real time.
