The balcony is your first "plot". In Germany renters may place flower boxes and pots as long as nothing hangs dangerously or damages the facade: full water buckets, falling pots and drilling the facade are forbidden. Vertical shelves, boxes mounted inside the railing, herbs in pots — all legal and safe.

- ●South side: tomatoes, strawberries, rosemary, lavender
- ●Bees love: thyme, oregano, marigold — a balcony feeder
🍅 A balcony tomato yields up to 3 kg per plant — the compact varieties are literally called "Balkontomate".
