Germany offers three paths after school: Universität (theory and research), Fachhochschule/HAW (practice — engineering, design, business) and Ausbildung (learning on the job). FH degrees are equal in value today — the difference is style: less theory, more projects and mandatory practice.
- ●~400 universities, mostly public — almost free
- ●Bachelor: 3–3.5 years → Master: 1.5–2 years
- ●Two semesters: winter (Oct–Mar) and summer (Apr–Sep)
- ●No fixed classes — everyone builds their own timetable
💡 Unlike many countries, studying at public universities is free — only a semester fee (~100–350 €, often including transit).
