ISS: a home above Earth

The International Space Station flies at ~420 km and orbits Earth in 90 minutes — the crew sees 16 sunrises a day! 3–7 people live and work aboard: experiments, repairs, spacewalks. Under construction since 1998 — the largest human-made object in space.

• ●ISS speed: 27,600 km/h — 7.7 km every second
• ●Astronauts sleep in bags tied to the wall
• ●Water is recycled — even sweat and breath
• ●You can see the ISS with the naked eye — like a bright moving star
