Craigslist doesn't work in Germany — here is what does
If you just moved to Germany and typed "craigslist germany" into Google: welcome, and sorry — Craigslist barely exists here. Germans use local classifieds sites instead.
Here is how buying and selling used stuff actually works in Germany:
1. Use a local classifieds board. On Kapnula you can browse and post in English, German or Russian — categories cover cars, furniture, apartments, jobs and free stuff.
2. Payment culture is different: cash on pickup is king. Bank transfer (Überweisung) is common but only pay after you have seen the item.
3. Watch for scams: never pay in advance to strangers, never accept shipping offers from abroad, ignore gift-card payments.
4. Bargaining is normal. "VB" in a listing means the price is negotiable.
5. Fast movers win: good deals on furniture and cars disappear within hours, so set a saved search alert.
Tip: the free section (Verschenken) is where Germans give away furniture for free — perfect when you are furnishing a new apartment on a budget.
