German art spans 500 years. Albrecht Dürer of Nuremberg (15th c.) was the engraving genius: the "Young Hare" and praying hands are world-famous. Paul Klee was the "painter-musician": his lines "took walks", he taught at the Bauhaus in Dessau — the school that changed design forever. Gerhard Richter is the most expensive living painter: his abstractions sell for tens of millions.
- ●Bauhaus (1919–1933): "form follows function" — modern design began there
- ●Dürer first posed himself like a god — self-portrait as manifesto
- ●Museums: Pinakothek (Munich), Zwinger (Dresden), Museum Island (Berlin)
🏛 State museums are often free or ~1 € on Museumssonntag — art for everyone.
