A third of Germany is forest: Black Forest, Bavarian Forest (first national park, 1970), Harz. The woods host boars, deer, foxes — the lynx returned, and the east has wolves again. 16 national parks protect unique places: the Wadden Sea (UNESCO tidal world), Saxon Switzerland (rocks), Watzmann. Rule: trails for people, forest for animals.
- ●Mushrooms: a handful for yourself is allowed, baskets need a permit
- ●Berries and nuts by the wayside — small amounts allowed
- ●Do not feed wild animals, do not touch young — the mother is near
🍄 Mushroom season is August–October: chanterelles and porcini grow nationwide. Learn to tell them apart — there are poisonous lookalikes!
