The German chess system is pyramidal: Stadtverband → Bezirk → Land → DSB (Deutscher Schachbund). Find a club: “Schachverein” + city — everywhere 20–200 members, ~€30–60/year. DWZ rating = German Elo. Tournaments: city, Landesmeisterschaft, German Championship. For adults “hobby” level is fine: in the club 2× weekly games + analysis + friendship.
- ●First club visit: just come and watch — usually warm welcome
- ●DWZ from first game — don’t fear “low”
- ●Masters play online + club: mix = fastest progress
🏆 Germany has ~90,000 registered club players — Europe’s second after Russia. The Schachbund runs the Bundesliga — pro league with master salaries.
