Germany has situational winter-tyre duty: on ice/snow/slush summer tyres cost ~€60 + a point, and insurers get difficult after crashes. Rule “O to O”: October to Easter. Tread: law 1.6 mm, life 3 mm winter / 4 mm summer (aquaplaning!). Pressure is on the door jamb or fuel flap sticker: −0.5 bar eats +10% rubber and +0.3 l/100 km.
- ●Measure pressure cold — after driving +0.3 bar is normal
- ●Store the second set bagged, lying or racked — or they deform
- ●Check the spare each season — it deflates quietly
❄️ Aquaplaning: with 8 mm tread the wheel floats at ~90 km/h, at 2 mm already at ~70. Three millimetres of rubber is the difference between driving and flying.
