A German winter is no reason to stay in. Skiing: the Alps in the south (Bavaria), Harz and Sauerland closer for centre/north. Season December–March, day pass ~€50–65, ski rental ~€25–30. Sledding (Rodeln) is free on any hill. Ice skating — rinks in every city ~€5–8 entry. Winter running — layers, do not overheat: "wet + cold = sick".

⛷ Germany has won ~370 winter Olympic medals — the sport is in the blood. Oberstdorf hosts the "Vierschanzentournee", the biggest winter TV event.
