Ukrainian has 33 letters with uniques: Ґ ([ɡ]), Є (je), І (i), Ї (ji). ABSENT: Ы, Э, Ъ, Ё. The sound И is softer than Russian ([ɪ]). Е reads „e“, not „je“ mid-word. Apostrophe ’ separates („м’ясо“ — no soft sign). Stress is mobile, marked in dictionaries.
- ●ґ vs г: ґ = [ɡ] like „goose“, г = [ɦ] like „say“
- ●Ї — unique: two dots + sound [ji]
- ●Apostrophe = pause: в’їзд, п’єдестал
🔤 The letter Ї is the only one with two dots over I worldwide. In 1933 it was almost banned — „replaced by і“ — but it survived.
