📋 Moving to Germany — Checklist

📦 Before the move

• Terminate rental contract (3 months notice)
• Set up mail forwarding at Deutsche Post
• Notify/cancel electricity, gas, internet contracts
• Do a handover protocol for the old flat
• Book movers or a van
• Claim deposit back / settle deposit account

🏛 Registration & offices

• Book Bürgeramt appointment (registration within 14 days is mandatory!)
• Get landlord confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung)
• Bring passport/ID to the appointment
• Re-register your car (if applicable)
• Register dog for dog tax (if applicable)

💳 Finance & insurance

• Open current account or update address
• Tax ID arrives by post (first registration)
• Get liability insurance
• Register broadcasting fee (€18.36/month)
• Inform health insurance of new address

👨‍👩‍👧 Family & work

• Apply for daycare or school place
• Apply for child benefit (Familienkasse)
• Tell employer new address + tax ID
• If needed: register for integration course (BAMF)
