✅ Lesson done
When reporting what others said (news, official statements), German uses Konjunktiv I: "Er sagte, er SEI krank." This separates fact from opinion.
- ●sei: Er sagt, er sei müde.
- ●habe: Sie sagt, sie habe keine Zeit.
- ●könne: Er sagt, er könne nicht kommen.
- ●würde (when K.I looks like indicative): Sie sagt, sie würde später anrufen.
Most common: sei/habe in 3rd person singular. If the form looks like indicative (sie haben) → use würde or Konjunktiv II. In the news: "Die Regierung teilte mit, die Lage sei stabil".
💡 At B2 you read news: sei/habe/könne signals reported speech, not the journalist's claim.
