Handmade starts not with buying but with a niche: textiles, paper, wood, candles, jewellery, ceramics. The basic kit is universal: good scissors (fabric scissors for fabric only!), cutting mat, ruler, hot glue gun, needles. The place: a permanent corner beats size — crafts that must be assembled and put away each time die within a week. Free materials: cardboard boxes on the street ("zu verschenken"), fabric remnants, flea-market tools.
- ●One niche at a time — otherwise a cupboard of materials, not products
- ●“Zu verschenken” boxes on the street = free wood and cardboard
- ●VHS adult-education centres run craft courses for ~€50/term
🧶 Germany’s handmade market is ~€1.3bn/year. 9 out of 10 sellers began "just for themselves" at the kitchen table.
