The key B1 step: in subordinate clauses the verb moves to the end! Main clause: "Ich lerne Deutsch." Subordinate: "…, weil ich in Deutschland leben möchte." — the verb jumps to the end.
- ●weil (because): Ich lerne, weil ich den Job brauche.
- ●dass (that): Ich denke, dass Deutsch wichtig ist.
- ●obwohl (although): Obwohl es schwer ist, lerne ich weiter.
- ●wenn (when/if): Wenn ich Zeit habe, übe ich.
- ●als (when, past): Als ich nach Berlin kam, sprach ich kein Deutsch.
Word-order rule: main clause = verb in position 2, subordinate = verb at the end. When the subordinate clause comes first, the main-clause verb follows IMMEDIATELY: "Obwohl es regnet, GEHE ich spazieren."
B1 practice: recombine simple sentences! "Ich bleibe zu Hause. Ich bin krank." → "Ich bleibe zu Hause, weil ich krank bin."
