Two train systems: Fernverkehr — the fast ICEs (up to 300 km/h, Berlin–Munich in 4 hours) and IC/EC — the ticket binds to that train; Nahverkehr — regional RE/RB/S-Bahn — cheaper, covered by the D-Ticket. Sparpreis means a discount for booking weeks ahead (from €17.99), Flexpreis costs more but is flexible. Delays are the national sport: 60+ minutes refunds 25%, 120+ refunds 50%.
- ●DB Navigator is the app: tickets, platforms, delay alerts
- ●A seat reservation ~€5 — worth it Friday evening
- ●Strike? Your ticket works on other trains — watch the app
🚄 ICE punctuality is ~65–70% — the legend of “German punctuality” does not apply to trains. Allow 30 minutes for connections.
