Trains: ICE vs RE, saver fares and strikes

📖 Lesson ──▶ 🎯 Quiz — pick the translation ──▶ ✅ Lesson done
🔋💡Closed circuit — bulb lights

Two train systems: Fernverkehr — the fast ICEs (up to 300 km/h, Berlin–Munich in 4 hours) and IC/EC — the ticket binds to that train; Nahverkehr — regional RE/RB/S-Bahn — cheaper, covered by the D-Ticket. Sparpreis means a discount for booking weeks ahead (from €17.99), Flexpreis costs more but is flexible. Delays are the national sport: 60+ minutes refunds 25%, 120+ refunds 50%.

🚄 ICE punctuality is ~65–70% — the legend of “German punctuality” does not apply to trains. Allow 30 minutes for connections.
