Board 8×8, right bottom corner light. PAWN moves 1 forward, captures diagonally, 2 from start. KNIGHT in an “L” (2+1), only piece that jumps. BISHOP only its own color diagonal. ROOK straight lines. QUEEN = bishop+rook, strongest (9 points). KING 1 square any direction, cannot be given up. Goal: checkmate. Stalemate = draw (king not in check, but no moves).
- ●Piece value: pawn 1, knight/bishop 3, rook 5, queen 9 — count when trading
- ●Castling = king+rook jump: get the king safe early
- ●En passant = rare but exists: the 2-square pawn
