The reference is mandatory when leaving. You have a right to a "benevolent" wording. Germans read between the lines: "zufrieden" = bad, "voll und ganz" = standard, "stets zu vollster Zufriedenheit" = top. "Wir bedauern" = dismissed. "Gutes Gedeihen" = dispute. Check: dates correct? tasks complete? no "bedauern" at the end? If unsure — demand a revision.
- ●"Stets zu vollster Zufriedenheit" = grade 1; "zufrieden" = grade 4
- ●Interim reference when changing roles inside the firm — do not wait for the end
- ●Missing "bedauern" is a minus: demand "wir bedanken uns und bedauern"
📜 Courts treat "soziales Verhalten" as mandatory: if missing — the reference is incomplete, demand a revision.
