Five insurances are deducted from gross: health, care, pension, unemployment and accident insurance (employer pays the last!). Together ~20% of gross, half paid by the employer. Private insurance (PKV) only at high income; it has less protection when sick. Compulsory membership explains "gross ≠ net".

🛡 The employer pays half of all contributions — and accident insurance fully. Working "under the table" means uninsured: in an accident you pay everything yourself.
