Schrebergarten: Germany\u2019s garden culture

📖 Lesson ──▶ 🎯 Quiz — pick the translation ──▶ ✅ Lesson done

The Kleingarten (Schrebergarten) is a ~200–400 m² plot in an urban colony: beds, berries, a hut up to 24 m². A 19th-century tradition — for working families without land. Plots are not sold but leased from the Verein (gardeners\u2019 association): waiting lists in popular cities run 1–5 years, but rent is only ~€100–300/year.

●Rule: at least one third of the plot for fruit and vegetables
●Sign up: the Kleingartenverein website of your city
●The hut (Laube): up to 24 m², sleeping only seasonally

🥒 Germany has ~1 million Schrebergärten — the largest "urban agriculture" in the world.
