There are six basic emotions: joy, sadness, fear, anger, surprise, disgust. Complex ones are blends: guilt = anger at self + sadness, jealousy = fear + anger. Core skill: NAMING — “I am angry” measurably reduces amygdala activity (affect labeling). Pyramid: event → thought → emotion → body (fists?) → action. Catch the emotion at the body stage — it is still manageable.
- ●Emotion vocabulary from 5 to 30 words — precision heals
- ●Anger disguises fear: ask “what am I afraid of?”
- ●The body reports first: shoulders, jaw, stomach — read the signals
🎭 Men name 3 emotions on average, women 8: “emotional literacy” is trainable like vocabulary. In German counseling centers the “Gefühlswetter” exercise is a standard first meeting.
