What to look for when buying a used car — from service book to test drive.

Before buying: Research

Check the market value of the model on several platforms. Compare prices for similar vehicles with comparable mileage and year. A too-cheap offer is often suspicious.

Service book

A complete service book proves regular maintenance. Ask for repair invoices. A continuous service history increases resale value.

The test drive

Pay attention to unusual noises, braking and steering. Test all electronic functions: air conditioning, windows, lights. A test drive of at least 15 minutes is mandatory.

MOT and inspection

Check the date of the last MOT. A fresh MOT increases value. An MOT due soon is a negotiation argument.

Contract and payment

Have all oral promises confirmed in writing. For cash payment: request a receipt. For transfer: only after signing the contract.
