1. Check serial number and IMEI

On phones dial *#06# and compare the IMEI with the one on the case/box. Check blacklist databases — blocked devices are often stolen.

2. Test on the spot

Power on the device, check the screen for scratches and dead pixels, test all ports, Wi-Fi and camera. 5 minutes of testing saves expensive surprises.

3. Check battery health

On iPhones: Settings → Battery, on Android via service codes or apps. Below 80 % capacity means a battery swap soon — negotiate the price.

4. Ask for the receipt

The original receipt proves legal ownership and shows the device's real age. On Apple devices: iCloud lock must be removed during handover.

5. Compare market price
